Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to welcome you to an electrifying new year in Fourth Grade!  I hope that you had a relaxing and fun-filled summer and you are ready for a year of excitement and fun in learning.

Each Monday morning your child’s agenda will be checked for a parent signature and completed reading homework.  Students with completed agendas and assignments will be given a great work sticker to reinforce student responsibility.

Every morning, assignments that are due need to be placed on their desk before the tardy bell.  Agendas need to be opened and placed on the student’s desk.  If a student forgets the agenda at home, he/she will be provided with an emergency agenda page to be filled out and brought home.  Students then will transfer the information into their regular agenda.  Parents will need to sign the emergency agenda page, which needs to be turned in the following day.

If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, please stop by and we can discuss times and days.  Parents are always welcome into the classroom and I have an open door policy. If you have any questions, please stop by.  I am available in my room from 7:30 – 7:50 am and after school.  If you would like to schedule a meeting, please call the school at 347-2411. I am looking forward to a fabulous year!

4th Grade Agendas:

Students will be provided with an agenda to be used as a tool for organization, parent – teacher – student communication, and as a log for required reading homework.  The first organizer is free.  If one is lost or stolen, there will be a $5.00 charge for a new one.  Each student will record homework and will take their agenda home each night.  I am requiring all students to bring them back daily to be checked.  Students will present their agenda to their teacher each morning and will be able to earn 5 points in their reading grade if the agenda is returned and the reading log is completed and signed by a parent over the weekend.  As a parent, you will be able to check assignments, write notes to the teacher, and review the nightly reading log.  This agenda will be helpful to all of us, and it is chock-full of resources for students to use.  There is a section for teacher comments.  I will be writing to parents in this section which keeps the lines of communication open if there are any concerns, praises, or new events in the classroom.  Please check these agendas daily because they will have all the students’ homework and important information that you will need to know.

Snack Time:

We will be having snack time at mid-morning.  Snacks are meant to be an energy boost for maximum learning to take place.  Snacks need to be brought from home and they need to be healthy like:  nuts, fruit, yogurt, or cheese and crackers.  If the student brings in junk food, they will be required to put it back in their bag and save it for lunch.  If this turns into a junk food break, we will discontinue snack for that student.  Please send you son/daughter to school with a water bottle.  They may keep these on their desks at all times.

Kindergarten Buddies:

Once a week, the fourth graders will be traveling to the kindergarten room to work with a kindergartener.  We will be focusing on reading buddies and extend that into language and math games.
