Mrs. LaFay's Class Rules and Expectations:

A strong discipline program in the classroom is the key to a successful environment for all students.  I combine the Green, Yellow, and Red card system with the Refocus program.  A student is first given a warning.  If the negative behavior continues, the student is asked to pull his/her green card out of the pocket chart and fill out a refocus sheet.  The refocus sheet asks the child to write down what the problem was and how it could have been solved more appropriately.  I like adding this extra step in second grade because it forces the student to internalize their misbehavior and work out a solution to change their actions in the future.  The children learn that they need to take responsibility for their actions.

 Green Yellow & Red Cards
Pulling a green card causes a student to lose 5 minutes of their recess, while pulling a yellow card means losing a special activity such as P.E., Music, Computer Lab, Art class, or a whole recess.  Pulling a red card means calling home to a parent to inform the parent of his/her actions.  If a student pulls a red card 3 times in one week, their actions will be reviewed for a possible one-day suspension.

Our school policy states that there is NO TOLERANCE for violence.  If your child becomes physically violent with another student they will be suspended from school immediately.  A student suspended from school the first time will be sent home for a day without being able to make up missed assignments.  Repeat offenders will be asked to stay out for two days.  After a child has been suspended a third time, he/she may not reenter the school until his/her parent or guardian returns with him/her for a full school day.

School wide expectations of students can be found in the student handbook, along with consequences for violations.  Any other information not covered here can be found in the school handbook.
