Dear Meadows Valley Elementary School Parents and Guardians,

Parental involvement is a centerpiece issue of the Title I program and the No Child Left Behind legislation. The statute defines the term “parental involvement” as the participation of parents in regular, two–way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, ensuring

·          that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;

·          that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;

·          that parents are full partners in their child’s education and should be included, as appropriate, in decision making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

Research has concluded that the evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: families have a major influence on their child’s achievement in school and through life. When schools, families and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more. Studies have found that students with involved parents, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to earn high grades and test scores, and enroll in higher–level programs; pass their classes, earn credits, and be promoted; attend school regularly; and  graduate and go on to postsecondary education.

As a beginning point to work towards involving Meadows Valley parents more in their child’s education, this fall, a Parent Involvement Policy was drafted and approved in December. As a follow up, we are conducting a Parent Involvement Survey to pin point where we are at the present time and what we could do to improve parental involvement at Meadows Valley Elementary School. We need your input and value your opinions.

Please take a few moments to answer the questions in the two page survey. Your few minutes of time checking the choices and writing your comments will serve as invaluable information to us as we seek to improve how we communicate with you and the kind of support we provide for you at home. If you need another copy of the survey, a printable copy is available on the Parent Information page on the website.

If you have any questions, please let me know. My door is always open 347-2411.

Most Sincerely,

Mr. Dion Flaming

Title I Information

Title I-A is intended to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments.

  • Title I-A targets these resources to the districts and schools where the needs are greatest.
  • Title I-A provides flexible funding that may be used to provide additional instructional staff, professional development, extended-time programs, and other strategies for raising student achievement in high-poverty schools. The program focuses on promoting school wide reform in high-poverty schools and ensuring students' access to scientifically based instructional strategies and challenging academic content.
  • Title I-A provisions provide a mechanism for holding states, school districts, and schools accountable for improving the academic achievement of all students and turning around low-performing schools, while providing alternatives to students in such schools to enable those students to receive a high-quality education.

What is the Title I Program?

Dear Parents,

Meadows Valley School participates in the federal Title I-A program, which is intended to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. Our program is organized around a partnership between the Title I teacher and paraprofessional, and the students’ classroom teachers, each of whom is highly qualified. Title I provides flexible funding that may be used to provide additional instructional staff, professional development, extended-time programs, and other strategies  for raising student achievement in lower-income schools.

The program focuses on promoting school-wide reform and ensuring students' access to scientifically based instructional strategies and challenging academic content. Based on teacher recommendations from performance data and observation, as well as parental consent, students are accepted into the program and receive extra group or individual tutoring in basic subjects where they need additional help and practice. If you have any questions about the Title I program, contact Mrs. Maroe at 347-2411.

                                               Sincerely,
                                            Mrs. Lori Maroe
